I refinanced my 3 year arm in 2007 and got a new 3 year arm with a worse deal than the first one. Higher interest rate, more restrictions, etc. I even had to agree to a higher interest rate to be able to refinance it again in 2 years rather than wait the full 3.
Somehow with all the craziness going on in the housing market, I never thought it would effect me. Then 2008 came along and I tried to get a better deal, only to be told that I couldn’t refinance because the house was underwater, and I couldn’t modify because we make too much money.
After a couple of years of a bad financial situation, and my husband’s working 24/7, it wore on my marriage and he moved out a few months ago. Previously, in May, I applied for another modification telling them that I would no longer have access to my husbands salary, and could we work something out? To “help” me, they escrowed my taxes, and raised my mortgage by $1200 a month. They want me to pay $3000 on a $198,000 mortgage for a house that worth anywhere between $80,000 and 141,000.
So I called to find out how my modification is going? They tell me they need a divorce decree, I say we are only separated, they then want an official legal separation document, I tell them Pennsylvania has no formal separation and I can’t give them anything. They suggest we divorce, I say I can’t afford to. Extremely frustrating!
About this time. I’d had it and happily called YouWalkAway. But I decided to keep pursuing the modification, just in case they came up with something that would work for me.
So 2 months go by, I get phone calls from them asking for money and each person I talk to knows nothing about the modification I have in process. All they want is the money.
One day last week, I’m driving my hour-long commute to work when I decide to give them a call and see how the mod is going. It’s been 3 months now. I’ve resent everything they ask for at least 2 times. I don’t seem to have their number, but I do have a letter from them with the number of the financial counseling department. I figure I could just call this number and they could transfer me over to the correct department. I get them on the phone, where he asks me for my loan number, which i give, he then asks me where the money is. I say I would just like a status on my Loan mod please, he then proceeds to yell at me that he won’t give me any info unless I pay them. Then he hangs up on me. Now keep in mind, this is one of their “counselors”.
Couple days later, I get a message to call a specific person, they gave me an phone extension. I call, assuming they have an answer on the mod. They then just yell at me for the money. I finally hung up.
And to top it all off, I just got ANOTHER letter from them, asking them to call me, they have an offer for me. Nope, not anymore, I fell for that once, not going to be yelled at again.
So I find they leave me with no choice. YouWalkAway seems to be the only logical decision for me. I don’t want to be in a home anymore which is no longer financially viable. I don’t want to be trapped in an area and have no chance to move for a better job, and I certainly don’t want to be yelled at!
I’m looking forward to my foreclosure.
